I as an Ashram member (kumar Gautam) who had started the Delhi Chapter decided to withdrew it inthe month of January 2009 after completion of one and half year of operation during which 8 students of undergraduate course were helped to complete thier graduation with the help of lecturers and students of Delhi University. For the said period the same students run an evening school for underpriviledged children where they provided supplementary education for their quality improvement. However, this was the partial success and the project was cancelled prematurely due to my personal engagement somewhere else.
I take the responsibility of this withdrwal and apologetic about leaving the project half complete.

नरकटियागंज [प. चंपारण, श्रीनिवास गौतम]। नजीर का कलाम, 'यहां आदमी की जान को वारे है आदमी', उस शख्स पर सटीक बैठता है। नाम शत्रुघ्न झा। वर्तमान में नरकटियागंज रेलवे स्टेशन के सहायक स्टेशन मास्टर। हड़बोरा नदी के तट पर खुला मानव सेवा आश्रम यदि आज अनाथों का नाथ बना हुआ है तो यह उन्हीं की देन है।
असहाय व अनाथ बच्चों के शिक्षादान और सेहत सुविधाएं मुहैया कराने के लिए आश्रम प्रसिद्ध होता जा रहा है। इलाके में कई स्थानों पर इस आश्रम के विद्यालय चल रहे हैं, जहां गरीब गुरबों के बच्चे मुफ्त में तालीम हासिल कर रहे हैं। उनके इस काम में अब इलाके के लोगों ने भी मुफ्त में सहयोग करना शुरू कर दिया है। निशुल्क पढ़ाना और सेवा के काम आना यहां कई लोगों का शगल बन गया है।
1997 में स्वामी विवेकानंद की जयंती पर शत्रुघ्न झा ने मानव सेवा आश्रम की नींव रखी थी। पहले यहां कुष्ठ आश्रम खोला गया। दर्जनभर कुष्ठ रोगी यहां रहते थे। रोगियों को आश्रम की ओर से भीख मांगने से मना कर दिया गया। आश्रम का कहना था कि खाना और इलाज नि:शुल्क मुहैया कराया जाएगा, लेकिन जिसे भिक्षाटन ही बेहतर लगा, वे यहां से चुपचाप चले गए।
2004 में आश्रम की ओर से गरीब, असहाय व अनाथ बच्चों को शिक्षित करने के लिए स्कूल खोला गया। बाद में जनसहयोग से कैरी, रमना बसवरिया, अंजुआ, भंटाडीह, बंजरिया भलुहईया, नरकटियागंज में कैंप स्कूल खोलकर पहली से सातवीं कक्षा तक गरीब बच्चों को मुफ्त शिक्षा दी जाने लगी। उन्हें चरखों पर सूत कातना भी बताया जाने लगा।
अब तक पांच हजार से ज्यादा बच्चे यहां से शिक्षा प्राप्त कर विभिन्न विद्यालयों में दाखिला पा चुके हैं। इस वर्ष ही यहां से शिक्षा प्राप्त धूमनगर की रीता कुमारी, ममता कुमारी व निर्मला कुमारी इंटर में प्रथम श्रेणी से पास हुई हैं।
खास बात यह है कि आश्रम के स्कूलों से शिक्षा पाने वाले छात्र ही यहां शिक्षण कार्य कर रहे हैं। फिलहाल इस आश्रम के स्कूलों में कुल पांच सौ बच्चे पढ़ रहे हैं।
आश्रम की ओर से तीन वर्षो के दौरान आठ हजार से ज्यादा लोगों का नि:शुल्क आंख का आपरेशन कराया गया है। इसके लिए मुंबई की एक संस्था स्वयं आगे बढ़कर डाक्टरों को लेकर आई और कैंप लगाकर इलाज किया गया। ठंड के मौसम में अनुमंडल क्षेत्र के विभिन्न गांवों में गरीबों के बीच स्वेटर, जैकेट, जूता, पैंट, शर्ट, कंबल, चादर, दरी आदि का वितरण तथा समय-समय पर महिलाओं के बीच नैपकिन और अग्निपीड़ितों के बीच वस्त्र, बर्तन, चूड़ा आदि भी बांटे जाते हैं।
नरकटियागंज में गांधी कथा वाचन समारोह भी आश्रम आयोजित कराता है।
गौरतलब है कि मानव सेवा आश्रम को करीब तीन वर्ष पहले तत्कालीन डीएम राहुल सिंह ने खुद पहल कर एनजीओ का निबंधन दिलाया था, लेकिन संस्थापक शत्रुघ्न झा ने इसे लौटा दिया। शुरू के दिनों में आश्रम को दान में कुछ सहयोग राशि मिल जाती थी, लेकिन पिछले दिसंबर से अब यह भी लेना बंद कर दिया गया है। श्री झा का मानना है कि उनके वेतन के पैसे और आश्रम की करीब तीन एकड़ की जमीन की उपज से ही वे उद्देश्यों को पूरा करने में लगे हैं। सीतामढ़ी के मूल निवासी झा का कहना है कि वे गांधी के आदर्शो से प्रेरित हैं और ताउम्र मानव सेवा ही उनका लक्ष्य है।

After a long gap
You must be wondering about the long gap during which the blog was unattended. One may infer from this about the inactivity of the Ashram for the said period. But we would love to share with you that these were the golden age of the Ashram during which we were most active and achieved lots of successes on humanitarian fronts. Due to no connectivity in rural areas where we worked and full engagement with our missions we were not able to be in touch with you for the said time. Some important activities during this period is as follows:
1. Koshi Flood 2008: Most remarkable feat.
2. 9000 patients of cataract and eye problem were cured
3. Successful campaigns in Maoist affected regions and return of 3 youth to the mainstream.
4. Cloth for work programme in association with GUNJ (an NGO)
5. Charkha programme
6. Launch of Nai taleem: vocation based education since childhood.

Cataract Operation eye Camp starting from 5th March
Since last 5yrs Ashram has been organising an eye camp where more than 3000 poor patient undergo cataract operation and get their vision back free of cost. This year too, it is being organised from 5th to 13th march. Though the awareness campaign and registeration process is going on in full swing since last month the actual medical operation will help from 5th march. volunteer are requested to participate in this noble cause. - Complementary School both for School going and school drop outs from class 1 to class XIIth at Indirabasti Slum, Timar Pur, Delhi.
- Series of Plays by a Group NO STRINGS ATTACHED of Students from Delhi School of Social Work, DU, on various socio economic issues on every alternate Sundays at Indirabasti, Timarpur, Delhi.
- Sanitation campaign at Indirabasti and Nearby areas.
- Spreading Awareness about Govts policies among Slum residents.
- A Survey has been conducted by VMSA volunteers (Students and Faculity members from Delhi University) regarding the socio economic condition of Slum residents.

Vishwa Manav Sewa Ashram is located at Narkatiaganj township of West Champaran District, Bihar. Established in 1997 and started with the medical treatment and rehabilitation of lepers and during course of its evolution Ashram targeted many deeply rooted social evils and ill practices prevalent in surrounding village communities. At present Ashram is playing imminent role in the following areas in villages:
EDUCATION
· Universalizing education for the identified disadvantaged section.
· Girl education and the women empowerment through functional and vocational education.
· Education of the physically challenged, leprosy afflicted children.
· Education for the children of leprosy patients living in and out of the Ashram.
· Emphasis on the moral values and vocational education to make a responsible citizen.
· Mainstreaming the children from non-formal to formal system.
HEALTH
Treatment of the leprosy patients.
Practicing Yoga, Pranayam and naturopathy to ensure the prevention and eradication of the diseases among the children of the targeted groups.
Campaign with the help of “Peace Army” of children in spreading awareness in the villages about the value of sanitation and hygiene in keeping the diseases and doctors away.

Discouraging child marriage by effective negotiations with parents and the community.

Seeking active and regular participation of the disadvantaged sections through self employment programme of cattle grazing and dairy farming, vegetable production and agriculture farming, cotton-yearning, knitting and embroidery, tailoring etc.
Social transformation by empowerment of the girls & women through capacity building programs
ENVIRONMENT
Plantation of trees in the towns and villages.
Educating people in the peace campaigns about the methods and ideas to maintain and keep villages and streets neat and clean.
